Sodium Chloride Inhalation Solution USP 3%w/v
QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION: Each 4 mL
unit-dose respule contains Sodium Chloride 3% w/v.
INDICATION: Hypertonic saline solution (3%) for
inhalation increases the mobilization of secretions in the lower
respiratory tract via an osmotic effect and prevents drying of the
bronchial mucus.
DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION: Adults, Paediatric
Patients and Geriatric Patients - Use as directed by the physician. One
single- dose respule per nebuliser treatment (treatments to be done two
to four times a day). Not be taken orally or administered parenterally.
Administration: By inhalation via a suitable pneumatic or ultrasonic
nebuliser. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Not be administered
orally or parenterally. WARNING AND PRECAUTION: Ensure
the solution for nebulization is clear and packaging intact before use;
discard any unused portions. Consult a physician before use if bronchial
hypersensitivity or significant blood in cough.
UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS: Discontinue saline inhalation and
consult a doctor if experiencing shortness of breath or irritation. Seek
immediate medical help if experiencing symptoms of a serious allergic
reaction, such as rash, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty
breathing. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Due to its effect of
causing increased bronchopulmonary clearance, it is advised not to
inhale hypertonic sodium chloride immediately after using other inhaled
medications that need to remain in the airways to act effectively (e.g.
nebulised antibiotics, dornase alpha, inhaled corticosteroids).
