QUICNAC 600
Acetylcysteine Effervescent Tablets 600mg
QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE COMPOSITION: Each
effervescent oral tablet contains 600 mg of Acetylcysteine.
INDICATION: Acetylcysteine is indicated for use as a
mucolytic in respiratory disorders such as in bronchitis, emphysema,
mucoviscidoses and bronchiectasis. QUICNAC 600 mg effervescent tablets
is indicated in adults only.
DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION: Dosage - One 600
mg oral QUICNAC 600 tablets daily is recommended for adults and older.
Administration: 1. Drop the tablet in half glass of water, 2. Allow the
tablet to dissolve completely, 3. Wait about one and a half minute for
water to get clear, & 4. Stir the water and drink immediately.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: It is contraindicated for use in
children under 2 years of age, in those patients who are sensitive to
it, and children and pregnant women with phenylketonuria.
WARNING AND PRECAUTION: Bronchospasms may occur with
N-acetylcysteine use, requiring immediate discontinuation. Severe skin
reactions are rare but possible; medical advice is needed if new skin
changes occur. UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS:
Dyspnea, pruritus, urticarial, rash, angioedema, platelet aggregation
and tachycardia. In patients with peptic ulcer or peptic ulcer history
N-acetylcysteine may have an unfavorable effect on the gastric mucosa.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Simultaneous dissolution of QUICNAC
600 effervescent Tablets with other medicines is not recommended, as
oral antibiotics should be taken two hours before or after
N-acetylcysteine to prevent potential inactivation, and caution is
advised regarding concomitant use with antitussive medications and
nitroglycerin due to potential interactions. Caution is advised.
USE IN SPECIAL POPULATION: Not recommended for pregnant
women with phenylketonuria; limited data suggest no reproductive
toxicity in animals, but it passes the placenta without apparent risk.
May be considered. Its excretion in human milk is unknown, and may be
considered during breastfeeding. These highlights do not include all the
information needed to use QUICNAC 600 effectively and safely. Please
